I felt inspired. Mind flooded with thoughts of what to include in this first newsletter, something creative, funny, witty, utterly relatable. A personal story, a touch of drama. Just enough to reel you in.
And then I set down to the blank page. Again? We all know this story by now. Yep, the dreaded blank page. No doubt the reason why it’s now a cliché is because it really does happen, and too frequent.
It’s like creativity strikes most when you aren’t thinking about it. When you aren’t looking. In fact, this is such a common experience that there are literally studies published on it.
But what happens when you need to turn your creativity on at a certain time of day? In my calendar, I have a recurring event. 8-9 pm every weeknight. Creative Time. This is when I need my creativity to be at its peak, in perfect synchronization with motivation to result in harmonious productivity. Then, I can rest easy. Then, I can relax and read a book. If only it was that easy, right? If only.
That phenomenon, that quest to synchronize these abstract whims of thought and passion into something concrete, something revolutionary, something a publisher will look at and go Groundbreaking. Let’s sell it. That journey is what this newsletter sets out to uncover. That magical space between creative freedom, inspiration, spontaneity and the mundanity of pursuing productivity, day in and day out.
I’m no expert on publishing, heck not even my editorial skills are not as sparkling as they once were. So I offer this — solidarity in the pursuit of productive creativity. May the enigma of inspiration and consistent motivation grace us all.
P.S. Turns out the reason why I was able to type out this newsletter in one go, despite initial lack of any semblance of a good idea, is science too.

Low, to be sure. Let’s blame it on “the holidays,” shall we? *wink*
